In the 2020s, research on Chinese characters shows three major trends: interdisciplinary integration, a digital turn and an applied orientation. This article surveys frontier developments in the decipherment of ancient scripts, innovation in teaching Chinese characters, cultural heritage protection and international dissemination, showing how this ancient writing system is finding new vitality today.
